I don’t remember when or how exactly Caleb and I became friends. But I think the main reason was because Auntie Delia and my mother were close both friend-wise and in proximity. We lived maybe less than 10 minutes apart at the time and would meet up pretty often, be it at their house or the playground nearby (that we still call Auntie Delia’s playground to this day). Caleb and I, along with our siblings, would then play together as our parents talked and talked and talked. I guess over time, we grew to become good friends.
Caleb and I then went on to attend the same primary school and join the same CCA – choir.
Caleb was always very outgoing and sociable, a favorite among many of our friends and teacher. He was always the optimistic one, encouraging everybody during PE lessons or class activities. Some of our classmates even reached out to me for his contact after Uncle Cameron and the family left for America, which really proved how valued of a friend he was to many.
He always gave his 100% for our choir performances and hence, always impressed our conductor, teachers and even school leaders. During his time in JYPS choir, his talent was acknowledged on several occasions. He performed a special quartet part for our 2016 SYF performance, being the only one from our level singing alongside 3 other seniors.
At another concert at the Esplanade the same year, he was actually tasked to represent our school at the finale, performing a short dance. The teacher asked me to help him choreograph it last minute, backstage. He was able to pick up the dance in a really short time, which really showed his professionalism even from a very young age.
Caleb was always very fun to be around, with his jokes and everything. Really just creating a lot of joy and laughter. We made many great memories together and he was a true blessing in many people’s lives.
