Hello, for those who don’t know me, my name is David and I’m a good friend of Caleb’s.

Friday, September 4th, 2020. After another week of school, my brother was driving me home. This Friday, however, was special, because Caleb was with us. We were excited, we were ready. We couldn’t wait to get to my house and start recording the ideas we had in our heads. We worked all night on the production of this song. Even though when we had to go to bed, despite not finishing the song, we said we could collaborate again in the future. That night before bed, we watched a couple of episodes of “Survivor”, Caleb’s favorite TV show.

The next morning, my mom was making waffles for us, something I’ve had many a time before. I remember him turning to me and saying, “These waffles are so good!” And I said, “They’re just waffles.” To which he replied, “Yeah, but I’ve never had them with whipped cream before.” The next school day, I saw down at my desk and Caleb said to me, “Waffles with whipped cream changed my life.”

You might be thinking, what does this mean? Why are you telling us this? I’m telling you this because Caleb was really good at something, something not many are good at. Caleb was good at being able to appreciate the small things in life. Whether it be having less homework than usual, eating something special, or finding a quarter on the ground. He cherished every little moment of each and every day. I think that is something we can learn from him.

I couldn’t tell you the countless amount of times I’d hear him say, “Remember that one time…” Caleb really helped me appreciate each little good thing in my day, and although he accomplished things adults still dream of, such as publishing three books, it was the small things that he did and helped me enjoy, that really helped shape me as a person, and now, because of that, I’ll never forget “that one time.”
